Water heater replacement and repair

No hot water is not a wait-until-Monday problem. We repair what can be repaired and replace what can't, sized right for the house, vented right, and tied in with clean copper. Most replacements are done the same day.

A tank water heater lasts ten to twelve years around here. Chicagoland water is hard, the sediment settles in the bottom of the tank, and eventually the tank either stops keeping up or starts leaking from the base. If yours is past ten years and making popping or rumbling noises, it is telling you something.

We repair what is worth repairing: thermocouples, gas valves, elements, relief valves, anode rods. When it's time to replace, we size the new unit to the household, vent it correctly, add the expansion tank code requires, tie it in with copper, and haul the old one away. Most swaps are done the same day you call.

Thinking about tankless? It's a good fit for some houses and a poor fit for others, depending on the gas line, venting route and how many fixtures run at once. We'll tell you straight which one your house is.

Water Heaters: common questions

How long does a water heater replacement take?

A like-for-like tank replacement is usually two to three hours. Moving to a different size, relocating the unit or converting to tankless takes longer, and we'll tell you up front.

Should I repair or replace my water heater?

If the tank itself is leaking, replace it; tanks can't be patched. If it's under eight years old and the problem is a part like a thermocouple, element or valve, a repair usually makes sense.

Do I need an expansion tank?

In most Illinois municipalities, yes, whenever the home has a closed system with a check valve or pressure regulator on the water service. We install one with every replacement that needs it.
