Copper repiping and water pipe replacement
Copper is the pipe we grew up on. Properly sweated copper lasts for generations, stays quiet, and can be repaired by any plumber with a torch. Whether it's replacing galvanized supply lines, repiping a whole house or running a new line to an addition, we do it in copper and we do it neatly.
Homes built here before the 1960s were usually piped in galvanized steel. Galvanized rusts from the inside out: the pipe looks fine, but the opening inside has closed down to the width of a pencil. The symptoms are low pressure, rusty water first thing in the morning, and pinhole leaks that show up one after another.
We replace it with copper. Properly sweated copper lasts for generations, stays quiet in the walls, doesn't care about sunlight or rodents, and can be repaired fifty years from now by any plumber with a torch. We support it, insulate it where it needs it, and leave it looking like someone cared, because someone did.
We use PEX where it genuinely makes more sense for the job, such as long concealed runs in a remodel. We just don't default to it.

Water Piping & Repiping: common questions
How do I know if my house has galvanized pipes?
Look at the exposed pipe near the water meter or water heater. Galvanized is dull grey with threaded fittings and a magnet sticks to it. Copper is reddish-brown with smooth soldered joints, and a magnet won't stick.
Why copper instead of PEX?
Copper has a century-long track record, holds up to heat and UV, and doesn't depend on a proprietary fitting system. PEX is faster to install and fine for some runs. We choose based on the house, and for exposed and mechanical-room work that is almost always copper.
Can you repipe a house in stages?
Yes. Many homeowners start with the worst section, usually the horizontal basement mains, and do the risers to each bathroom as those rooms are remodeled.
